Stonecutters Bridge data collection

A specially designed weather mast is acquiring information on wind behaviour that will help with the aerodynamic design of what will be one of the world’s longest cable stay bridges. The 50m mast was erected at Ngong Shuen Chau in West Kowloon by specialist instrumentation contractor Fugro Geotechnical Services, under a contract awarded by the Highways Department of the Government of Hong Kong SAR. It is being used to acquire data relating to wind speed, direction and turbulence at the future location of the Stonecutters Bridge, which on completion in 2008 will have a main span of 1,018m.
