Wikipedia: Construction of the Schwarzbach Valley Bridge began in 1978,[3] and it was completed in 1981.[2] The section between Weselberg and Thaleischweiler-Fröschen of the Landstuhl-Pirmasens link opened on the eastbound carriageway in 1985. However, due to extensive construction work, the entire link was not completed, and thus the bridge was not actually used, until the early 1990s.[3]
brings
In September 1990, the bridge gained nationwide notoriety in Germany because the US Army used it and the still unopened A62 motorway to transport approximately 102,000 grenades filled with poison gas to the Miesau Army Depot as part of Operation Lindwurm. The fact that these grenades had previously been stored in a military depot near Clausen in the Palatinate Forest had not been publicly known.[2][4][5] The transport cost the US over $53 million, while the Federal Republic of Germany had to spend more than DM 45 million (approximately €38,463,551) on security measures.[5]
brings
As part of the rehabilitation of the A 62 motorway between the Thaleischweiler-Fröschen and Bann junctions in 2018, the Schwarzbach Valley Bridge was also renovated. The bridge was closed for this purpose from the beginning of the year until December 14, 2018.[6][7]
