 <u>Bridge 1936</u><br><br>The viaduct was built within a year of an average of 300 workers at around 3 million Reichsmarks construction costs. The architectural design was Paul Bonatz. Each direction roadway was driven by an own, 9.05 m wide arch bridge. The distance is 3.0 m in transverse direction between the bridges. The 254 m long structure has eight openings with semicircular arches with the 27 m clear span in longitudinal direction. The pillar axis distances are 31.2 m. The visible surfaces of masonry construction have a granite stone cladding. Bastion-like extensions have been created at the northern end of the bridge, which should serve as resting places and observation deck on the Saale Valley. A postage stamp of the series had modern buildings of the German Reichspost for the winter relief organization in 1936 the bridge as a motive.<br><br>On 13 April 1945 the bridge was badly damaged by explosives a pillar and the following 21 years was not passable. The building has a place full slab at the edge with a maximum thickness of 1.62 metres tall in the middle and 40 cm. The superstructure is supported by in the longitudinal axis of the bridge centrally arranged individual pillars. The octagonal pillars have a walk-in steel cross section concrete hollow with a total width of 2.7 m below the pier head. The pillars are up in two levels of trumpet-shaped flared. According to height of 4.0 m, 6,30 metres wide is available. Four forming bearings are arranged in this level. The following upper widening up to the superstructure plate has a height of approximately 1.6 m with a maximum diameter of 10.7 m.<br><br>The abutment and four Saale near pillars are based on bored piles with 1.5 m. The remaining pillars have a flat Foundation.<br><br>The place full slab of the superstructure was made concrete in lengths of approx. 31 m on Lehrgerüsten m³ sections with approximately 700 m. The bridge cost 14 million DM.
