One of the most striking sights in the Princely Gardens is the Devil's Bridge, which spans a 21.5-meter-long gorge, the 19.5-meter-deep "Hell." The wooden bridge, constructed in 1843 during the westward expansion of the park, was replaced in 1895 by a curved concrete structure with ascending and descending stairs. The bridge, whose name likely stems from the Romantic era's fascination with Switzerland and is derived from the real Devil's Bridge at the Gotthard Pass, was soon embellished with a legend according to which the builder tricked the devil, who had helped him with the bridge's construction, into demanding his "payment." was able to outwit. After crossing the bridge, one leaves the gorge through a four-meter-long, artificial rock tunnel. The "hell" located below the bridge was accessible in earlier times via a staircase and walkway system, the "Stairway to Heaven".
