The bridge spans the oxbow of the Rhine, which separates the island of Grafenwerth from Bad Honnef. Grafenwerth is an island in Bad Honnef at river kilometer 642. It lies opposite the island of Nonnenwerth. The "Grafenwerther Bridge" was built in 1911-12 and is considered one of the first reinforced concrete bridges in Germany.
