The Shaky Bridge is located on the eastern edge of the central town of Alexandra in Otago and spans the Manuherikia River. Set amidst the rocky outcrops and dramatic scenery characteristic of this part of Central Otago, the Shaky Bridge provides pedestrian access from the residential area of Alexandra to the sparsely populated areas east of the river.
The Shaky Bridge is a single-span suspension bridge that crosses the Manuherikia River. A series of stone towers runs along both sides of the bridge, between which the suspension cables are arched. The approaches to the bridge are constructed of stacked stone.
The bridge deck has been converted from an early road bridge to a pedestrian bridge. The pedestrian-width deck features wooden railings and wire fencing along its entire length.
