the limestone-clad steel truss bridge

Center (Friedrichswerder/old Cölln), leads over the copper ditch between the road behind the small and the Bodestraße. 1796/97 the first cast-iron bridge in Berlin was built instead of a wooden bascule bridge. High bridge was named because of its curved high arch, and was made in the Royal iron foundry in Malapane (Silesia). The name iron bridge 1825 remained even after its new construction in sandstone. 1914-1916 Walter Koeppen (; 1877) built the current stone-clad iron construction. With a width of 21 meters this spans the 20 m a decurrent wide spree Canal. The parapet prepared also from shell limestone contains bronze grille in 16 holes, decorated with tendrils and foliage motifs, boy - and girl figures. The badly damaged building was World War II 1950 makeshift, reconstructed in 1968 under the faithful restoration of the bridge railing. The iron bridge is under monument protection.
