After many discussions and suggestions, the cotton manufacturer in August Alexander Jannowitz 1822 founded a society that should raise the funds for a planned bridge over the spree. The bridge was built in the same year. Anyone who wanted to get across the Bay Bridge, had to pay a toll of 6 pfennigs to the manufacturer. For this, the first cleanup began in October 1950. Until 1951, the bridge was dismantled and disposed of. The important transport link was rebuilt from 1952 to 1954. In addition to the existing traffic flows of a few meters took over also the tasks further orphan bridge, which was not rebuilt. The bridge is a total 80 meters long and 36 meters wide, making it roughly as big as the previous bridge.

In September 2005 began work on the Rekostruktion of bridge, which should last until early 2007.
