Middle (Friedrichswerder/old-Cölln), Frederick Canal connects the upper and the underwater road. The j. was built around 1689 by Martin Grünberg as bridge under the name lane bridge. The drawbridge used as a road bridge was built around 1798. Since that time, the bridge has been preserved up to minor changes. With construction of the new mill dam lock in 1932-1936, the Spree Canal was no longer used for navigation, and the last surviving drawbridge of Berlin serves only pedestrian traffic. The name of the bridge should come from a Huguenot family blessed with many unmarried daughters who had pitched their goods stand at same bridge and a reputation earned, to be the largest "dispenses of Berlin and Cölln". The j. stands under monumental protection.<br>(Info from www.luise-berlin.de)
