WIKIPEDIA: The historic centre of the city is located north of the Ticino River, directly opposite the District of Borgo Ticino, which originally lay outside the city walls. Both sides were joined by the built in 1351 to 1354 Ponte Coperto, which was destroyed during the second world war. The bridge is a reconstruction from the 1950s, which further built a few meters east of the original site. The location of the old bridge is visible from the road and the visible at low tide Pier foundations in the river bed.
