The B 96 road tunnel is an essential part of the transport systems in the central area of Berlin. The tunnel solution was chosen to match the B-96 the future developments of transport and urban development. Must carry the southern connection to the above-ground route of the B 96 not on already overtaxed existing channel bridges, built this bridge over the Landwehrkanal. You can accommodate two lanes of traffic in North-South and three in North-South direction. To achieve the altitude required for the passage of vessels, the Canal embankment in the crossing area about two meters had to be raised.

The bridge was designed for a high traffic load. Nevertheless, she - seems as modern reinforced concrete construction planned and executed - elegant and delicate. The design reminds of the Landwehr Canal, which are preserved in several positions at the same time on the previous basket arch bridges.

Superstructure and abutment form a structural unit. The connection of the bow fingers on the abutment is articulated (concrete joints).

In view of the situation in the Centre of Berlin, this bridge was selected to commemorate the initiator of the "Marshall Plan" of George C. Marshall. Among other things the reconstruction of Berlin from the ruins of the second world war combines with his name.

Construction cost: 13.800.000 DM
