This bridge is the fourth bridge on the site. The first Fulda bridge was built in 1880. It was replaced by the first pontoon bridge in 1934. It was blown up in March 1945 and rebuilt in 1946 as the second pontoon bridge. Between 1990 and 1993, it was rebuilt to suit current road conditions and is now the third pontoon bridge.
