The bridge is made entirely of Lahn marble (polished limestone, but no real marble)<br><br>Wikipedia:<br>The bridge was built from August 1894 to December 1895 to allow direct access to the Lahn Valley Railway was built in 1862 and the marble quarries and land "excess Lahn" the place of Villmar. Until the completion of the bridge had residents via ferry or barge across the water, to get to the right side of the Lahn. Flood or ice floes, the road led to the about 3 kilometres from Lahn bridge in Runkel and lahnaufwärts to Villmar. The construction of the bridge was approved faster, after Mayor Simon Dill the priest Johannes Ibach when translating across the Lahn were capsized their boat and almost drowned. With the approval of the Royal Government in Wiesbaden of the planning was commissioned by the municipality of Villmar on April 28, 1890 the Royal water construction inspector H. Wolfram from Diez. The construction costs of the building amounted to 150,000 Goldmark. Of 125,000 mark, fell on the bridge, as well as to the expansion of the port means ca. 25, 000 mark. So financed: community share 92.200 mark, aid of the Royal Government 20,000 mark and the oberlahnkreis 15,000 mark, grants by Dyckerhoff &amp; Neumann 15,000 mark, Krupp company 5,000 mark and citizens donate 2,800 mark. The traffic took place officially on the 6th, 1896. The entrepreneur M. H. Cölbe, near Marburg corner Baker performed the construction work. The company delivered the "Lahn marble" Nassau marble works (INH. D &amp; N) from their quarries, as well as the publicly-owned quarries of Villmar right and left of the Lahn.<br>On November 1, 1985, the "marble bridge" was registered on proposal of the Council of the municipality due to their technical significance as a cultural monument in the Memorial Book of the land of Hesse. In the years 1994/95, the basic renovation of the Lahn bridge has been put to the company Engineering GmbH, Wolkern, for the price of 1.169.361 DM. The total cost of the renovation amounted to 2.126.449 DM. For this purpose, a grant of the land of Hesse were 1.359.600 DM, citizens donation of 20.000 German marks.
