<br>The old border crossing on the bridge, which most recently consisted of dilapidated wooden barracks, is no longer sufficient in the 1960s for the growing volume of traffic. Also she no longer corresponded to the notions of the GDR from a secure border: the 3.2 km long motorway between the American checkpoint dreilinden in West Berlin and the border crossing Drewitz could not be monitored. Also regretted the frontiersman "bad ways of observation and fire management".<br><br>1967-1969 was built a new border crossing point (GÜSt) Drewitz and the current route built by the GDR.<br><br>The bridge has remained, the route of the old highway was renaturalized during the mid-90s. Today, the bridge is for pedestrians and cyclists over a narrow bridge.<br><br>As a bridge over the Teltow Canal it has indicated Number 7 at channel km 5.45. It is also known as highway bridge at the old checkpoint.
