The else bridge was destroyed in the war and all traffic to and from South-East had to be handled via the Oberbaumbrücke bridge.Because of the way but went through West Berlin an alternative had to be found. It was then the so-called centipede. This bridge was built in 1951 from 450 wood piles and replaced in 1968 by the Elsenbrücke (BAS 1372). Else bridge construction was removed superfluous and again. Also the shipping was no longer possible due to their presence, she no longer had to work because the border no longer allowed the passage except for small Grenzpatroullienboote.
