Wooden beams, inclined inwards and wind bracing

Wikipedia: The Ernst-Müller-bridge was a footbridge over the storage root of the Wupper before lock of Wuppertal in Hückeswagen. The bridge collapsed in June 2008.

The bridge over the damming of the river Wupper was built in 1985 and later named [1], who had campaigned for the development of the dam with hiking trails and the construction of the bridge in honor of the Councillor Ernst Müller. The arch bridge was built in timber and came from the town of Hückeswagen in the possession of the Wupper Association in 1999.

Was diagnosed in November 2006 routine work, that the bridge as a result of wood rot was at risk of collapse. She was immediately closed to the public. A report revealed that the bow tie on one side were weathered.[2] Blocking was regretted by the population as now popular routes were interrupted and had to cope with long detours for the tourists. An company adjacent to the river Wupper agreed to an assumption of liability by the city to allow a path through your site, so that the necessary detour could be reduced significantly.

2007 it was decided to replace the Ernst-Müller-bridge with a new bridge construction. Seven bidders with 23 offerings took part in the invitation to tender, from which a flat steel bridge was able to convince.[3]

Two weeks before starting the demolition work and the new building, the Ernst Müller bridge collapsed on the evening of June 24, 2008, due to the damage observed in the opinion.[4] People were not injured. The subsequent bridge was built in early August 2008.
