The Weiherberg Bridge was built in 1978. Initial damage was discovered in 2003, but this was repaired. In the summer of 2007, damage to the girders was discovered, leading to a speed reduction, a narrowing of the roadway, and a weight limit of 25 tons.
The bridge was then suddenly closed in the early morning of November 23. Demolition work began in early June, and a new bridge was put out to tender. Construction of the new Weiherberg Bridge began in October 2008. It was opened to traffic on July 30, 2009, and finishing touches were completed by the end of August 2009.
