The arched bridge over the Exter River, built in 1854 from red sandstone sourced from the Upper Weser region, replaced a temporary structure erected after the Exter flood of 1837. At that time, following a summer downpour, the river swelled dramatically within hours, destroying all bridges downstream and even claiming one life. The new bridge survived the similarly severe floods of 1902 and 1937. It was renovated in 2000 and listed as a historical monument. (Source: City of Rinteln)
