<br>At this point, an old sandstone bridge stood until March 25, 1968. This old bridge of 1686 was destroyed by flooding of the river Eden.<br>The Bailey bridge was opened on the 31.05.1968. It is a single lane. The traffic is controlled by traffic lights.<br>The Bailey bridge was meant to be temporary and still stands today. It is the longest so far, ongoing temporary in the United Kingdom and is in the Guinness Book of world records.
