The protected Frederiksbrücke (Frederik's Bridge) is the oldest cast-iron road bridge in Denmark. It was built in 1844, replacing the old wooden bridge called "Möslash;glebroen/The Great Bridge." The Frederiksbrücke was named for Frederik VII, the then Governor of Fen, later King of Denmark, who resided at Odense Castle at the time.
The Frederiksbrücke was inaugurated on October 6, 1844, the Crown Prince's birthday, in a ceremony attended by the Crown Prince himself and his father, King Christian VIII. On the same occasion, the name of the street was changed, and thus "außer der Møslash;llebro" became Frederiksgade.
