Wikipedia:<bR>The exact construction time for a pile bridge over the Mosel can not be determined. Coins from the time of Claudius Gothicus (268-270) to Arcadius (395-408) considered evidence that the bridge existed already in the 3rd century. In the years between 1860 and 1867, 50 m remains of the pile bridge from Roman times were discovered downstream next to the Balduinbrücke. When dredging to expand of the shipping channel 1944 and the establishment of the Weir and sluice 1969, numerous remains of the bridge from the River have been eliminated.

It is certain that the Auxiliarlager Koblenz already existed around the middle of the first century with the completion of the Roman Rhine Valley Road. The Earth Castle Koblenz served as backup this road and the river crossing over the Moselle river. It is to assume that existed even then a bridge over the Moselle river. It is also certain that this pile bridge was destroyed by Romans in the 5th century
