The first real bridge was built in 1937 to 1939 in the wake of the A 3 between Frankfurt am Main and Cologne and spans with a maximum height of 46 m the close Theißtal on an overall length of 507 m. The 16 constant span arches resting on 15 pillars. The bridge is believed to go back on a design of Paul Bonatz who was responsible for numerous traffic buildings of this time. The bridge has a concrete core and is covered with hand wrought reddish Melaphyre stone from the Palatinate, who served at the same time as formwork.[1]. Due to their distinctive shape as arch bridge, the motif is the landmark of Niedernhausen. The monument is under monument protection.
In the 1970s, the A-3 was widened from two to three lanes of direction. As for this, the old bridge was too narrow, built 1974 to 1976, in addition to this a new girder bridge in steel concrete way which takes up spacing pillars and the height of the old bridge, considered not to destroy the image of the old bridge of Niedernhausen from. Thereafter, the highway on the old bridge led towards Cologne, the new to Frankfurt.
