Wikipedia:<br>When dredging wooden stilt shoes were discovered in the main 1885 and 1903, served to stabilise stone piers. The superstructure of the bridge should have been wood. Dendrochronological investigations dated the timbers on the year 134 BC in the end of the reign of Emperor Hadrians. In addition to the connection with areas south of the main, the bridge allowed especially troop shifts on the limes.
