Wikipedia:<br>The Wattenheimer bridge is located at the intersection of two major old routes. This and the Habitat in the vicinity of the bridge, with sufficient agriculture and best collection, hunting and fishing opportunities, ensured that people settled here in prehistoric and early historic times. The archaeological finds at the bridge ranging from the Neolithic to Roman times. So, a hatchet, an arrowhead, a hoe and a vessel were found from the Neolithic (3000-1800 BC). Dating from the Roman period including a coin with the image of emperor Nerva, on 96 - 98 ad.

Originally named the Watts bridge bridge as she led in the Wattenrodt - a swamp grubbing-up of today's Großenackers -. The original wooden bridge was replaced by the present stone construction in 1774. Until the year 1802, a customs station was located on the bridge between the Hessian and the electoral Mainz area.<br>Remains of a Roman bridge of the Marsh were found on the bridge.
