Information provided by Claus Wentz: this 14-arched structure was completed in 1342 and has a total length of 200 m, the width ranges from 4.20 m and 4.80 m. Major repairs had to be made in 1635, in 1805 and 1830 after flood and ice damage.
The bridge is part of the old trade route from Frankfurt am Main to Thuringia.
On the western shore of the river Werra, the zone boundary ran, this resulted in that the building was locked up for the reunion.

Information provided by John Bacolod:
This bridge is called "Bridge of unity" since the 03.10.1990.
Victims of the construction built in 1342 legend, that the Middle arch, as soon as the master set it up with his mate, again collapsed. A Servite monk from Mari Eng type laid close Abbey knew Council. He was the master, to embedding a living child; and, the arch was. We find here counted between the 5th and 6th arc from the North at the head like outstanding stone on the East side of the bridge, the place where the child to be bricked up.

The middle of the Werra bridge was blown up shortly before the end of the second world war. American pioneers improved them after the war with a wooden structure. 1951/52 the damaged area was rebuilt by sandstone construction - short but the bridge for public transport was blocked. The bridge was about decades dividing line between East and West.
