Information provided by Jens Bitsch:<br><br>Gernsheim was also a bridge until the end of the second world war, remains can be seen there today, there are still some bridge abutments. 
The bridge was only a few years in the war.<bR><br>In October of the year 1939 began the construction of the Rhine bridge at Gernsheim. For the construction was 683 Pi.Bat. responsible. It by the company Philipp Holzmann AG and it was supported.

Even though the bridge by the military was take, she was but during the war of the civilians available and was used until the year 1945 in civil. On March 16 and 17, the bridge had strategic task to fulfill her last as the fleeing Eifel army across the bridge was evacuated.
An end on 19 March 1945 found the building at 21:00 with the Spregung by German troops.

After it became quiet around the bridge after the war, (the still-usable carrier were used in reconstruction of the worms Cathedral) you had suddenly 2004 money at the end of the year in the Rhineland-Palatinate and began with the demolition of the Western ramp, as well as the remaining parts of the bridge.
