a circular bridge over a road junction with a pylon in the Middle

Wikipedia:
History
In the Northern access road from Eindhoven to Veldhoven, there was a large roundabout, whose Fahrbahn had the width of three lanes of traffic, but intentionally that were equipped with longitudinal markings for several years. The intention was to stimulate the driver to go quiet. Many drivers learned this design but as unpleasant.

Also due to the development of the new PSV of Meerhoven district and the planned relocation of the nearby exit 31 of the A2 motorway to a few hundred metres to the South, a capacity increase of the intersection was necessary. A somewhat futuristic design was designed in which the traffic a normal crossing with traffic lights and for the cyclists a suspended roundabout was planned for. This increased traffic circle was like a suspension bridge with guy ropes to a suspended 70 m high pylon.[1] The approach ramps for cyclists are relatively long, to restrict the rise.[2]

Construction was begun in mid May 2011. The intersection was officially opened on December 30, 2011. Barely a week later, however, the crossing was fully restored for traffic because the tensioning ropes vibrations occurred, if necessary, could lead to dangerous situations.[3][4] By the unfavourable weather conditions was greatly delayed the repair. Only the crossing to traffic was released on June 9, 2012, and the Hovenring was officially opened on June 29. The crossing previously briefly closed on June 27, on the night of the 26th because the vibration dampers were incorrectly installed.[5]

The name Hovenring

In a kind of betting, the population was asked to propose names for the construction. About 200 residents suggested 330 names. In an information meeting on March 22, 2010 the visitors could vote for a name. A large majority chose the name Hovenring.[6]

A part of the word Hoven-is derived from the common part of the place name Eindhoven and Veldhoven.[7] As - hoven it happens more frequently in Dutch and Flemish names, most frequently in the Eindhoven region.
