The bridge was built starting in 2019 as part of the creation of a city park for EXPO 2000 and was opened on June 4, 2000. On July 12, 2000, it was named Karl-Heine-Bogen, commemorating the entrepreneur Carl Heine (1819–1888), who, among other things, commissioned the canal that also bears his name.
