The Hugo-Preuß bridge was built between 2002 and 2004. It has a total length of 88,50 m and an overall width of 24 m. 1,400 Tonnes of construction steel have been processed. The construction costs amounted to €7.8 million. The bridge with a superstructure made of steel, Professor Ungers was built to a design by the architects. It follows the curved course of the river Spree in the floor plan. The design of the square-shaped cartridge cornice band, which is taken out on both sides above the shore of Berlin-Spandau navigation canal, gives her a super-sleek and stringent appearance. On the top of the bridge is highlighted the arc-like progression through design elements from 20 cm-wide steel strip, which continued including the light stelae over the bridge.

The place has a tradition for bridges. To connect the then resulting ALSE area directly at the Humboldt Harbor, here also led ALSE bridge, built in the middle of the 19th century over the spree. She soon no longer met the growing requirements of shipping and was replaced in 1928 by a modern steel bridge without crossing of the river Spree. It was named after the co-founder of the Weimar Constitution Hugo Preuß and renamed Admiral Scheer bridge in 1933.
This bridge was destroyed during the second world war.
