Tüpedia.de: The Blue Bridge runs over the railway tracks on Friedrichstrasse. The name comes from the no longer existing steel arch bridge that stood here until 1987 and was painted blue (hence the name).
History
The old Blue Bridge was built in 1911 to replace the railway crossing at the southern end of Karlstrasse. Today, a bicycle and pedestrian underpass stands on the site of the old railway crossing.
The current bridge is a steel and concrete structure inaugurated in October 1987.[1] Several steel scaffolds have been erected on this bridge as a symbol of the old bridge, painted blue in remembrance.
A crossbeam of the demolished old bridge, now painted red, was erected in December 1987[2] at the Eberhardstraße exit onto Reutlinger Straße (B 28) to the east (in front of the State Theater). This steel gate bears the inscription "Built 1911" above the roadway. (See picture of the old bridge in the Schwäbisches Tagblatt newspaper of January 24, 2009, page 30) (See picture of the old bridge in the Schwäbisches Tagblatt newspaper of January 24, 2009, page 30) After the old bridge was demolished, the railing was also reused: for the pedestrian bridge over the Steinlach River, extending from Christophstrasse.
