Information by heidi Zahir:
When connecting to the Foundation of the Western Hörseltales to the industrial and commercial sites Eisenach West and Sandoval (OPEL works), the location became a pinhole Hörschel. A bypass should help here. The planning of the Beltway was influenced mainly by the topographical situation (the Hörsel in the Werra and Hörselberg Confluence area), as well as the existing infrastructure with railway and the Werra Valley bridge in the course of the Federal motorway A 4.
A preferred solution was developed, which includes the construction of a bridge across the Werra and the Spichraer Street in the wake of the L1O21 within the framework of the bypass. The State of Thuringia, Mühlhausen was represented to the planning phase 4 by the road served as client for the measure. After the construction of Meiningen this task took over. The construction works for the new bridge was started in September 1996. The building is a total 213,50 m long bridge of six field. The storage of the bridge is done on elastomeric bearings, the anchorage is located on the East River piers. The superstructure was made on a Falsework in two sections. The coupling joint is located on the river Werra, about 15 m away from the Eastern pillar. Here, eight tendons are coupled, eight tendons are performed without coupling (213 m). The base of the bridge and the first phase of the construction of the superstructure were completed in October 1997. The bridge construction was fully completed in July 1998. The new Werra bridge was built next to or below the highway bridge of BAB4.

The immediate vicinity of this highway bridge had to be taken into account when selecting material, as E.g. the bridge abutment due to expected increased freeze-thaw as a result of open drainage of the highway bridge and the spray mist development associated with an air-entrained concrete B 35 were produced. The bridge is regarded as Los 2 of the construction of bridge/tunnel within the framework of the overall project construction of the bypass Hörschel. Because the bridge immediately to the also new zubauenden tunnel (lot 1) connects, it raises an additional feature to be taken into account: the Eastern abutment of the bridge was built so that it could accommodate the operating space for the tunnel.
