The bridge was used for transporting Wehrmacht troops during World War II and was blown up by the Dutch. It was reopened for freight traffic in 1951. However, the line was completely closed in the 1970s. In 2021, it was decided to reactivate the line for passenger service. In the summer of 2025, the superstructure of the swing bridge was dismantled for renovation. In August 2026, the superstructure was reassembled and put back into operation. Passenger trains are scheduled to run again from December 14, 2026.
