Information sign:
The first paved road in Schleswig-Holstein ran here. It was built between 1830 and 1832 under the Danish King Frederik VI, connecting Altona to Kiel.
To span the Osterau River, a three-arched bridge made of granite blocks was erected, identical in design to the Friedrichsbrücke (Friedrich Bridge). A ford was created on the east side of the bridge; this served for watering horses and cleaning wagons.
In 1950, the bridge was widened and fitted with new keystones. Part of the railing dates back to 1834.
