Bypass project includes a Ganges bridge

The National Highway Authority of India has embarked on the Allahabad bypass project which includes construction of an 87km, four-lane bypass on National Highway 2 in Uttar Pradesh. The scheme has three construction packages including the construction of a 1km-long bridge across the River Ganges, consisting of two independent parallel structures. The span arrangement consists of two six-span continuous units using precast segmental cantilever construction technology with epoxy glued joints and internally bonded prestressing. There are also two road construction packages. Bids are invited from pre-qualified contractors in April 2002.
